I think I am embarrased but still trying to convince myself I shouldn't be. I now can access the cross-reference dialog box even when starting Word in the normal mode. Not sure just how this happened because I had been working in the safe mode and, of course, didn't have the problem. When I started Word again in the normal mode, the problem was no longer present.
Cross-references, you can include referenced items that update automatically. With Word's bookmark feature, you can mark specific locations and chunks of. Sep 16, 2011 - Cross-references work the same in Word 2003, Word 2007, and Word 2010. If you're using Word 2007 and Word 2010, on the References tab,.
So I must have moved the dialog box from the previously 'turned off' monitor to the main monitor while in the safe mode. Apparently the dialog box somehow must have been displayed in the 'turned off' monitor when I first encountered the problem. Thanks for steering me to a solution. It's possible Word's 'Building Blocks.dotx' and/or 'Built-In Building Blocks.dotx' file has been corrupted. To deal with that, close Word and look in: C: Users%Username% AppData Roaming Microsoft Document Building Blocks 1033 In that folder, you may find another numbered folder (eg 12 or 14). Either of these may contain files named 'Building Blocks.dotx' and/or 'Built-In Building Blocks.dotx'.
Rename those files and re-start Word. It will create new versions of those files, which should correct any faults the existing ones had. If all's well, delete the renamed files. Cheers Paul Edstein MS MVP - Word.
I have a very large word document (250 pages) with lots of cross-references inserted in the text (mainly tables and figures as Figure 2.1 or Table 4.3 etc). The main text of the document is set to Calibri 12. The font of the cross-references is coming up as Arial 12. I have too many cross-references to change them all manually. I have searched on Google to see if I can find style-set for the 'cross-referencing text' so I can change it to Calibri 12, but I am not having any luck. I need this done fairly soon for a thesis, I hope some can help me with this. I am using Word 2010.
Try using the Replace functionality (Home tab on the ribbon, then 'Replace' on the Editing section.). You can specify that you only want to search a particular style (I believe cross references are considered 'captions'). This will limit the search to only the style you want to change.
With your cursor in the 'Find what' box, click the Format button and select Style, then Caption. To limit to only captions with the unwanted font, click Format again, select Font, then Arial 12. Click in the 'Replace with' box, click Format again, and select Font, then Calibri 12. This should replace all instances of Arial 12 in captions with Calibri 12. You may need to experiment with other styles (aside from 'caption') in case your cross-references are being classified as something else.
